How to End AIDS

Start Talking Stop HIV is a new educational campaign bringing together voices from gay and bisexual men from a spectrum of backgrounds and relationships to the Epidemic that the CDC is releasing on National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. I’m incredibly proud to be a very small part of this conversation along with Ken Almanza, Charles Sanchez, AJ King, and many other artists, activists, and community leaders I greatly admire.

20 Days Into 2017

It’s amazing how quickly everything can change. A year ago today I was living in Los Angeles, engaged to be married, and writing occasionally but mostly being a housewife between bouts of exceptionally self-destructive behavior. If you would have told me then that twelve months hence I’d be living in The South, single, and (almost) supporting myself as a full-time freelance writer I would have rewarded you with my most skeptical face—but to be fair, I don’t think 2016 worked out the way any of us expected it to…

Scared Shitless in the Era of Donald Trump

I keep hoping that i’ll wake up and this will all have been just some crazy, messed-up dream. But it’s not a dream. This is real life. Donald Trump has been elected President of the United States. Like many of you, I’m sure, I spent a good chunk of this week in tears, scared shitless, in total disbelief. I think I’m half still in shock.

Brenden Shucart in Eli Rarey’s ‘The Exterminator’ (That’s my “skeptical face.”)

The story was melancholy and absurdly funny—and it tracked very neatly to where I was in my life at that moment. Now the short film that we made out of that awesome script, The Exterminator, is premiering this weekend at the Atlanta Shorts Fest.

VivvyAnne ForeverMORE is Living The Dream (In L.A.!)

VivvyAnne ForeverMORE!

Last week i was joined on The Novus by the lovely and gracious VivvyAnne ForeverMORE to talk about the show she recently co-produced: Work MORE! 7: Daughters of a Riot, which was a celebration of San Francisco’s hidden queer history, via the mediums of drag performance, signing, burlesque, and dance. By all accounts it was an amazing program, and now Vivvy is making her way to L.A.

Howdy Gang! I’m sorry to say that there is no new episode of the Novus Homo podcast this week—I’m taking a small hiatus from podcast while I explore the South’s famous hospitality—new and regular episodes will resume in June.  Instead I would like to draw your attention to this great piece on PrEP and gay sex  from Tyler Pratt, which features interviews with PreP Facts founder, Damon Jacobs, and your’s truly.
